Rickets, which result in deformed legs and beaks in newborn chicks, can be brought on by a vitamin D deficit. A vitamin D3 deficit in chickens can lead to calcium shortage and have a negative impact on egg production. Chickens can obtain vitamin D3 in their body in two different ways: by consuming it in their feed or by being exposed to sunlight directly.
